Tuesday Night Bar & Other Free Legal Clinics

Tuesday Night Bar

Since October of 1988, the Utah State Bar and the Young Lawyers Division have sponsored a free legal advice program in Salt Lake known as the Tuesday Night Bar. Approximately 1,100 individuals meet with a volunteer attorney each year for a brief one-on-one consultation at no cost. The purpose of this program is to assist the public in determining their legal rights. The Tuesday Night Bar is held the first four Tuesdays each month between 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Utah Law & Justice Center, 645 South 200 East. Appointments for this program may be scheduled by calling (801) 297-7037 eight days prior to the appointment from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. No walk-ins are accepted at this clinic.

Brigham City

New Hope Crisis Center Clinic: Second Tuesday of each month at the New Hope Crisis Center, 435 East 700 South, Brigham City. No appointment necessary, first come first served. From 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Call (435) 723-5600 to check for scheduling changes only.

Utah Legal Services' Pro Se Clinic: Held the third Friday of each month starting at 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at 43 North Main. By appointment only. Call (801) 394-9431, ext. 3001 between 9:00 a.m. and 5 p.m. to schedule an appointment.

Cedar City

Utah Legal Services' Pro Se Clinic: Held the second Wednesday of each month from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Fifth District Courthouse, 40 North 100 East.

Farmington

Utah Legal Services' Pro Se Clinic: Held the first and third Wednesday of each month from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Second District Courthouse, 800 West State Street. Spanish speaker available.  Walk-in appointments only.

Fillmore

Utah Legal Services' Pro Se Clinic: Held every third Thursday of the month, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., at the Fourth District Court, 765 South Highway 99. No appointment necessary. Call (435) 743-6223 to check for schedule changes.

Layton

Christian Legal Society Clinic for Indigents: Third Monday of each month (There will be no clinics held in the months of June, July, or August)at Mountain View Baptist Church, 2585 East 3000 North (HWY 193), Layton. No religious affiliation required. Call (801) 334-6068 to make an appointment. Limited to ten (10) people seen each session. Begins at 6:00 p.m. No walk-ins will be accepted. Clients signed up for the clinic will receive one-half hour free consultation concerning their legal questions. Attorneys will not represent the clients' interests in court matters, but only provide experienced legal advice to guide the client in resolving their legal matters.

Logan

Utah Legal Services' Pro Se Clinic: Held every second and fourth Thursday of the month from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the First District Courthouse, 135 North 100 West. Call (435) 750-1300 to check for scheduling changes. No appointment necessary.

Manti

Moab

Nephi

Utah Legal Services' Pro Se Clinic: Held every second Wednesday of the month, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., at the Fourth District Court, 160 North Main. No appointment necessary. Call (435) 623-0901 to check for schedule changes.

Ogden

Bar Night: Held every second and fourth Thursday of the month from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Your Community Connection (YCC), 2261 Adams. Appointment required. Call (801) 394-9456 on the day of the clinic. Limited to fifteen (15) people seen each session.

Utah Legal Services' Pro Se Clinic: Held every second and fourth Monday of the month from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Second District Courthouse, 2525 Grant Avenue. No appointment necessary.

Washington Heights Legal Clinic, co-sponsored by Christian Legal Society: Held every 1st Thursday of the month beginning at 6:00 p.m. (There will be no clinics held in July or August) Located at Washington Heights Baptist Church, 1770 East 6200 South, South Ogden. Call (801) 334-6068 for more information. Limited to ten (10) people seen each session. No religious affiliation is necessary.

Park City

Utah Legal Services' Pro Se Clinic: Held every second Wednesday of the month from 9:00 a.m. to Noon at the Third District Court, 6300 North Silver Creek Road. By appointment only. Call (800) 662-4245 ext. 3475 to make an appointment.

Tuesday Night Bar: First Tuesday of every month at the Miner’s Hospital, 1354 Park Avenue, Park City, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. No appointment necessary. All attendees must sign in by 6:45 p.m. to participate.

Small Claims Court Mediation: Held twice monthly during small claims court at Silver Summit Justice Center, 6300 North Silver Creek Drive. Free mediation services offered through trained volunteer mediators. For details, call Jane Campbell at (435) 615-6807 or the Summit County Court Clerk at (435) 615-4300.

Central Utah Bar Association's Tuesday Night Bar: Held the first and third Tuesday of each month, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Held the first Tuesday of each month at the BYU law school. Clinic locations for the third Tuesday of each vary within Utah County. Appointment required. Call the BYU Lawhelp desk at (801) 422-3025 one week before the clinic to make an appointment.

Community Law Help for Immigrants: Held every Thursday from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at Centro Hispano, 819 South 200 West. Offers brief assessment and referral service. Call (801) 655-0258 for more information.

Community/Utah Legal Services Clinic:  Spanish speaker emphasis, but all welcome.  From September through April, held every Tuesday of the month from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. From May through August, held every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Located at the Health and Justice Center, 151 South University Avenue, Room 1600, Provo. Small Claims Mediation:  Free mediation offered during small claims court in Utah County by trained volunteer mediators in collaboration with BYU’s J. Reuben Clark Law School.  Call (801) 422-2159 for more information.

Salt Lake City

Fair Housing Program: Staffs a table the first and third Tuesday of each month from 5-7 at Horizonte School, the first and third Wednesday of each month from 6-8 at the Matheson Courthouse, and the fourth Monday of each month from 5-7 at the Indian Walk-In Center. The Fair Housing Program serves people from all protected classes (race, color, ethnicity, sex/gender, religion, disability, familial status), not just people with disabilities. We are offering free workshops to all protected classes, as well as landlords, housing authorities, etc. on the federal fair housing act and an individual’s right to fair housing. Debtor’s Counseling Clinic: Held on the fourth Thursday of the month from 6:00-8:00pm at the Salt Lake City Public Library, Level 4 meeting room, 400 South 210 East. Rainbow Clinic: Held the second Thursday of every month from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Utah AIDS Foundation at 1408 South 1100 East, Salt Lake City. First come, first served. Rainbow Clinic offers an ongoing legal clinic for LGBT-related employment, estate planning, and family law.

Clinic for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing: Held every second Wednesday of the month. Interpreters are provided. Located at the Robert G. Sanderson Community Center for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing, 5709 South 1500 West. Call (801) 263-4861 or email legalclinic@utah.gov to schedule an appointment. Appointments are also available via poly-com (satellite phone). By appointment only.

Street Law Legal Clinic: Held every Tuesday night from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. No appointment necessary. Areas of law: consumer, employment, housing, discrimination, etc. NO FAMILY LAW MATTERS. A Spanish speaking interpreter is almost always available. Located at 1234 S. Main Street in Salt Lake City on the 1st floor by the cafeteria. **In following with the rules of the school, please do not wear a hat (unless for religious purposes), no cell phones allowed (unless you are in the cafeteria), and no entire solid color outfits like blue or red. American Indian Legal Clinic: Held the fourth Monday of every other month from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Areas of law: Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), Tribal Land, Family Claim issues, etc. Located at Indian Walk-In Center is at 120 West 1300 South in Salt Lake City. St. Vincent de Paul Center: Held every Thursday from 12:00 p.m. -3:00 p.m. No appointment necessary. Located at 437 West 200 South. Call (801) 363-7710 ext. 114 for more information.

Utah State Bar's Committee on Law and Aging: Volunteer attorneys provide legal services to people over 60 at Salt Lake County senior centers by appointment. Immigration Law:

Holy Cross Ministries Immigration Legal Services: Legal assistance in immigration cases is provided, regardless of religious affiliation, to eligible applicants, on a sliding scale fee basis. For more information, call (801) 261-3496

Catholic Community Services, Immigration Program: Legal assistance with immigration matters is provided, regardless of income or religious affiliation. Flat fees are charged, which vary by case type and complexity. Fees may be waived for exceptional financial hardship. For more information, call (801) 977-9119 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

International Rescue Committee: A certified immigration specialist offers low cost assistance with basic immigration services, including adjustments of status, petitions for family reunification, and applications for naturalization, travel documents, and employment authorization. Call (801) 883-8452 for more information from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Immigration Clinic: Held the first Thursday of every month from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 1234 Main Street (SLC) located in the 4th floor in the media/library room. Wednesday Night Bar/Sorensen Multi-Cultural Center Clinic: is held on the first and third Wednesday of the month from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Sorenson Multi-Cultural Center, 855 W. 1300 S., Salt Lake City. Salt Lake County

Landlord-Tenant Mediation Program: Provides mediation services to landlords and tenants involved in eviction proceedings in the Salt Lake County area, through trained volunteer mediators. This program represents collaboration between the Community Action Program and the Utah State Courts. For more information, contact Josie Turner at (801) 359-2444, ext. 225.
